Sir Ridley Scott's original cut was a lot bloodier, but because of the negative reactions of test audiences, and the possibility of an "X" rating, scenes with violence and gore were cut down. Some outtakes that can be seen in making of documentaries show longer and bloodier versions of the chestburster scene, and Brett's death scene.
