Robert Durant's surname is of Anglo-French (Norman) origin, derived from the Latin Durandus meaning "enduring"; this is true, as it is shown by his appearance in the sequel The Return of Durant, and in the Darkman/Army of Darkness crossover comics adaptations of his character, where he returns as a Deadite. He seems to have endured everything.
