One of Nora Ephron's signature film-making quirks was her use of songs to accentuate plot points (one of the chief elements that led her films to be termed 'chick flicks'). When Meg Ryan's and Tom Hanks' characters finally meet in person, with both knowing that they've been e-mailing each other, the song "Over the Rainbow" plays on the film's soundtrack. The duo shared a scene set to the same song in Insonnia d'amore (1993).
