Six of the eight Harry Potter movies had been nominated for an Oscar, totalling twelve nominations in the franchise. This final movie was nominated for three Academy Awards in 2012, and since the franchise had never won an Oscar, there was some expectation that this movie would do it. When this movie failed to win any of them, it became film history that the Harry Potter franchise never won an Oscar. However, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them (2016), part of the extended Harry Potter universe, did win an Oscar for Best Costume.
