The series was to originally feature characters from Josie e le Pussycats (1970), who were seen in early promotional art for the show. Due to legal disputes between Hanna-Barbera and Archie Comics, the Josie characters couldn't be used and were replaced by Captain Caveman and the Teen Angels. There also was a dispute with Columbia Pictures television over the character Jeannie. However, because the character Babu was a Hanna-Barbera creation he was allowed to appear on the show.
