When the network run ended, Carol Burnett was going through a contentious divorce from Joe Hamilton. Unknown by Burnett, Hamilton made a deal with Vicki Lawrence to take the show into syndication. Burnett herself wanted to also syndicate the show but when she reached out to Lawrence found out there was already a deal in place. This caused a rift between the two stars that lasted for several years.
