The show largely took place in the fictional school James K. Polk Middle School. With a few exceptions in season one, such as the episode Elections, all the episodes took place indoors. Starting with season two, more exterior shots were filmed. Season three was the first time the episodes took place outside of school grounds, most notably the episodes the Bus, Parties, and the series finale Field Trips, Permission Slips, Signs & Weasels.
