While much of 'Weird Al' Yankovic's life is fictionalized for the film, some things are true. Yankovic really did acquire his first accordion from a traveling salesman. He really did his first record "My Bologna" in a bathroom (though before he met the rest of his band). The song really did achieve instant success. "Another One Rides the Bus" really does feature Jon Schwartz using Yankovic's accordion case for percussion (though, again, before Yankovic and Schwartz met the rest of the band). The Scotti Brothers really were Yankovic's record label from 1983 to 1996. Madonna really did suggest that Yankovic parody "Like a Virgin." Also the fact that Dr. Demento has no kids of his own is accurate, as he and his late wife Sue Charles were childless by choice.
