The story on how Adam Sandler was cast was he had just got to California. One night, he just finished his third set on stage when director Valerie Breiman went up to him afterward and asked if he wanted to star in a movie, Sandler said yes. Breiman further explained that it was going to be shot on a cruise ship to Mexico. Sandler thought that was cool, he just wanted to make a movie. It should be noted that this was a week and a half before shooting and the script had yet to be written.
