The character of John Diggle was rumored by fans to eventually become either the Green Lantern, or the Guardian. However, Diggle ultimately assumed the identity of Spartan and the Guardian mantle was taken up by Jimmy Olsen in "Supergirl." There remain many hints to a possible future identity as the Green Lantern, including a stepfather named Ray Stewart (John Stewart was one of the characters to take the mantle in the comics), an alternate universe in which he is mentioned to wear "a ring" by that world's Flash, and a mysterious space artifact appears in his front yard in the series finale.
