This movie, appropriately, contains multiple references to Blade Runner (1982) which was directed by Ridley Scott. Aside from the obvious themes with Robots/Synthetic Humans attempting to integrate or replace the human race, there are several repeats and lines of scenes from the film. And much like it and its sequel Blade Runner 2049 (2017), this film has an opening shot of an eye staring straight at the camera. However, in the Blade Runner films it is never revealed whose eye it is, while in this film, it is immediately revealed to be David's eye. Also, Ridley Scott was originally set to direct Blade Runner 2049 (2017) along with this film, but instead chose to focus on the Alien sequels fully while turning over the reins to Denis Villeneuve.
