According to Carlo Verdone, director Sergio Leone used to personally choose every prop in his movies, including the carillon in this one. When someone told him nobody was going to notice the finer details, Leone answered: "Stamo a fa' il cinema, mica il circo. Se vede tutto." (We are making cinema, not circus. They see everything.)
