It took 25 years for an English dubbed version to be made and released in theaters of the 1991 classic animated film. In the US, it had only been shown in its original Japanese with English subtitles as part of Studio Ghibli retrospectives for a handful of showings at NYC's IFC theater in 2012 and once on Turner Classic Movies back in 2006.
