Karenna Gore, the then-11-year-old daughter of former Vice President Al Gore and Tipper Gore, reportedly played Prince's "Darling Nikki" at their home in 1985. Mrs. Gore, a Democrat, put off by the song's sexually explicit lyrics, teamed up with Susan Baker, a Republican and the wife of former Secretary of State James Baker, to form the Parents' Music Resource Center (PMRC). Both testified to a Senate committee about children being exposed to sexually explicit lyrics in music. This eventually led the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) to slap warning labels on music albums deemed inappropriate for children.
