In the audio commentary, Ali G (Sacha Baron Cohen) said that Alan Rickman and Sir Anthony Hopkins were offered the role of Deputy Prime Minister David Carlton, but turned it down with the part in the end being cast with another English actor, Charles Dance. This is the second time Charles Dance has accepted a role Alan Rickman has turned down, the first one being the villain Benedict from Last Action Hero (1993)
