Ernst Stavro Blofeld returned in this movie, his first appearance in the new continuity established by Casino Royale (2006). Officially, Blofeld's last appearance in the franchise was in Agente 007 - Una cascata di diamanti (1971), although in the opening sequence of Solo per i tuoi occhi (1981), an unnamed character (due to a legal rights dispute) resembling Blofeld was apparently killed by being dropped down a chimney.
