Despite the author, Brian Garfield wrote a follow-up to Death Wish and earlier production marketing suggested that the film would have been called, 'Death Sentence' as the original sequel novel's title, the producers ultimately passed up the offer for an original story instead. However, there are are elements from the book that were used in the film, such as Paul using an office space for his vigilante operations, a disguise, and using two handguns. Ultimately, he also doesn't divulge his vigilante duties to his new girlfriend.
