The main square is called Piazza Calvino, borrowing the name from the famous Italian writer Italo Calvino (which was alive in the time the film is set so it's difficult the square name is more than an homage) Italo Calvino returns also in the surname of Giulia, which is Marcovaldo, who is the protagonist of a famous Calvino novel.
