A pay-up works as follows: if you come in last, you have to pay everybody ahead of you.Come in second-to-last, you're gonna pay everybody but the bottom.Come in fourth, you pay the top three.Come in third you pay the top two.In other words depending on your standing you "pay up" those who achieved a higher ranking and not those which followed you. First place, means everyone pays you and last means you pay everyone else.
