When Hiccup and Toothless are about to part ways forever, Hiccup's hand leaves Toothless' snout in a shot that references the first movie, in which Hiccup turns his head away, puts his hand out, and Toothless touches his snout to Hiccup's hand. A bit later, when Hiccup is introducing his kids to Toothless, the music that plays is a rearrangement of the music that plays in that same scene from the first movie.
