Chris Columbus sold scripts to Steven Spielberg that became Gremlins (1984) and I Goonies (1985) but his career didn't really take off until the major success of Mamma, ho perso l'aereo (1990) which allowed Columbus to move on to other more successful projects like Mrs. Doubtfire - Mammo per sempre (1993) and the first two Harry Potter films.
