The plot device for this episode - someone mimicking the murders in Castle's fiction - was previously used in episode 2.15 of Bones. Coincidentally, Darby Stanchfield, who played the wife of the first victim in the Bones episode, plays Rick's ex-wife (and Alexis's mother) Meredith.
