This movie and Il ritorno dello Jedi (1983) bookend the opening and closing of both movies. They both start on Darth Vader's spaceship and end with joy on a planet with the characters facing the audience. The reverse happens in L'Impero colpisce ancora (1980), which doesn't open on Darth Vader's spaceship, and ends in tragedy with the characters facing away from the audience in a spaceship.
