Creator Sol Saks wrote in his memoirs that the reason Elizabeth Montgomery and William Asher were hired is because the two of them were looking for a project to do together and their agents sent them out as a team. The two initially wanted to do their own concept, about a young woman who becomes an heiress, but realized the "Bewitched" premise fit their ideas well enough, and signed on.
