Samantha tells Richie that the Woodsboro killings happen "every decade or so". Scream (1996), Scream 4 (2011), and Scream (2022) take place in Woodsboro. The first Woodsboro killing - Maureen Prescott - took place in 1995 one year before the events of Scream in 1996. Fifteen years later, Scream 4 occurs in 2011 and eleven years later this movie takes place in 2022. Scream 2 (1997), which takes place two years after the original even though it was released one year after it, changes its location to Ohio and Scream 3 (2000) occurs two years after Scream 2 in Hollywood and therefore would not count as "Woodsboro killings."
