Michael Raymond-James hired a dialect coach to pull off a Cajun accent. The two worked closely on the script, inserting French into Rene's dialogue for effect. Some people found it hard to understand this, because his accent was that authentic. The dialect coach did the same work with Michael Jeter on Il miglio verde (1999).
