The show's creators originally envisioned Daphne as a Latina, similar to Rosie Perez. But NBC President Warren Littlefield suggested Jane Leeves and Daphne's ethnicity was changed to English. Kelsey Grammer (Frasier) was originally disappointed, because he felt that having an English housekeeper would make the show similar to La tata e il professore (1970). But he changed his mind after a meeting with Leeves.
