In the novels, the Strigoi are incapable of physically producing speech, communicating via telepathy. The Master, Dremerhaven, Eichhorst and Quinlan mimic the motion of speaking with their mouths while psychically projecting their voices.For the series, it was decided that this would be a waste of the actors' talent and would be a needlessly difficult thing to translate to the show. As such, the Strigoi's inability to articulate spoken words is a trait that was removed in the adaptation from novel to television.
