When Ellie is playing in the abandoned house, she is going to Paradise Falls she sees a puppy though her soda binoculars, then says that they're going through a storm with lightning and hail. Carl pilots the same house using the same window to Paradise Falls; along the way they fly though a storm, and the first living thing they encounter is indeed a puppy.
