The episode La signora in giallo: Mr. Penroy's Vacation (1988) shares several plot points with the dark comedy stage classic turned Cary Grant-Priscilla Lane film 'Arsenic and Old Lace', which features two dotty elderly spinster sisters who poison and hide the bodies of their elderly room-renters. NOTE: the episode is not identical in all respects despite some misleading of the audience, but there are definite similarities and it is not likely they were even remotely coincidental. At one point, Helen Appletree (Teresa Wright) says to Lillian Appletree (Joan Leslie), "Not my best lace tablecloth!", which apparently was a line in the play.
