In the Aliens (1986) novelization, Bishop speculates that a 'more bolder' synthetic than himself might actually be able to walk among the aliens unharmed. David certainly believes so, trying to win over a Neomorph by showing a lack of fear. And until Oram kills it, his belief seems to be justified.
