The director and the producers were opposed to the casting of Richard Burton as O'Brien, particularly since he had not made a movie in five years, and was no longer considered a box-office attraction. His last movies, Lovespell (1981) and Quei due (1981), were both filmed in 1979, and did not have a theatrical release.
