When the film "Yeh Hai Jalwa" was launched in 1999 the star cast was Sanjay Dutt, Salman Khan, Raveena Tandon, Armaan Kohli. Kareena Kapoor was added in 2000. The producer Ketan Desai decided to shelve the film and start a new one. He retained the title as well as Salman Khan and Sanjay Dutt and signed Amisha Patel for the new film.
