Although much of the technology used by the Union is similar to that seen on the various Star Trek series, there is one major omission: transporters and other means of teleportation. Alien transporters are used in Command Performance (17 September 2017) and The Orville: Mad Idolatry (2017). Producer André Bormanis referenced their absence saying, "Seth [MacFarlane] felt it was asking enough of the audience to believe in faster-than-light travel".
