For the scene where Kylo Ren killed Han Solo, Harrison Ford said that he wanted the character to die an honorable and noble death. Ford has been trying to do this since the release of L'Impero colpisce ancora (1980). J.J. Abrams agreed to this, because Ford believed the character has had a good enough run in the franchise, to where Solo could not be forgotten.
