In Italy, where the show is broadcast with the title "La Tata", Fran's name is Francesca, and her origins are not Jewish, but Italian (from Frosinone in Ciociaria, to be more precise). She was born in Italy and later moved to the U.S. to live with her aunt Assunta, which is actually the character of Sylvia (Renée Taylor).
