The MD520N police helicopter has no conventional tail rotor. Instead, there is a internal blower which directs air out of a variable opening port at the rear left of the tail boom. Exhaust port pressure is also directed to the left to assist in the anti-torque function. This arrangement makes the aircraft safer to fly near trees and other tight spaces.
