The show is done live-to-tape meaning the show is taped as if it is live. It's done in just a bit over an hour, and the commercial time is used to change sets. This practice was discontinued after producer Roger Dobkowitz left the show and Mike Richards became the executive producer to get the best performance of new host Drew Carey who did not excel with the live-to-tape method.
