Having to analyze the character of Blossom's dad, the inspiration for Nick Russo was legendary rocker Dion DiMucci. The creator Don Reo was friends with Dion and admired his relationship with his kids. Reo was also inspired by J.D. Salinger's classic novel "The Catcher in the Rye" and wanted to make a girl version.
