The Third Doctor's car, Bessie, appeared on several occasions with the licence plate "WHO 1". This private plate had already been purchased by another party and so the BBC were unable to acquire it for the series. Instead they used a fake "WHO 1" plate on private roads, and the car's actual plate "MTR 5" was used only in long-shots.
