Around halfway mark in the film, the director, Pier Paolo Pasolini, playing Geoffrey Chaucer could be seen reading the book 'The Decameron' by Giovanni Boccaccio. Il Decameron (1971) was also the previous film directed by Pasolini and the first in his 'Trilogy of Life' movies.
