Jeff Greenberg, the casting director, has won several awards for his casting of the show, even more impressive given the 12-person ensemble cast. After casting other iconic shows like Cin cin (1982) and Frasier (1993), he was well aware of an actor's potential and lobbied hard for Eric Stonestreet and Ty Burrell to be cast, in spite of the network's reservations.
