Steven Spielberg wanted Dennis Weaver for the role of David Mann after seeing his performance in the 1958 Orson Welles' feature film, film noir, L'infernale Quinlan (1958). Weaver played a jittery, paranoid motel night manager who frequently used the colloquialism "another think coming" in his dialogue. Spielberg virtually recreates this character for Weaver in the cafe scene when Mann nervously confronts the truck driver and says, "You've got another thing coming!".
