This series timeline is historically accurate, unlike the similar series "Vikings." Both series show the invasion by the Great Heathen Army. "Vikings" shows this invasion as taking place during the reign of King Ecbert (reign 839-858)(Alfred's grandfather) when in fact it takes place in the closing days of the reign of King Aethelred I (reign 865-871), Alfred's brother and predecessor, as shown in The Last Kingdom.
