(at around 20 mins) Derek Thompson points out a single piece of metal that flies by WALL·E when EVE is blowing up the ship. The piece of metal is a direct reference to a similar piece of metal seen in Aliens - Scontro finale (1986) when the shuttle crashes and explodes.
