In the film, Snow White sleeps in deathlike slumber throughout autumn (symbolized by falling leaves) and winter (symbolized by snowy weather). She is awakened in spring, when flowers surround her coffin. This part of the film resembles the tale of the spring goddess Persephone and a number of other vegetation deities, who rest in the Underworld for half-a-year and are revived at spring.
