At the beginning of the first season, FOX insisted that House must have some enemy or someone telling him he couldn't behave like that. However, while creator David Shore was hesitant about the idea, he created Edward Vogler (Chi McBride), saying from the beginning that he was only going to be in five episodes, and then he would leave the show.
