When George, Scarlett, Papillon, and Zed are crossing the water on the ninth floor down, George sees his brother, Danny, underwater calling out to him. George later admits his brother drowned while he was getting help. He makes a comment that can be construed as he feels he betrayed Danny for not saving him or Danny might've felt betrayed when George never came back. In Dante's Inferno, the Ninth Circle of Hell is Treachery.
