Bruce Bennett's real name was Herman Brix. He was a star shot-putter in the 1928 Olympics, winning a silver medal. MGM picked him to star in Tarzan, l'uomo scimmia (1932), but he had to relinquish the role when he broke his shoulder. A few years later he starred in the independent production of Le nuove avventure di Tarzan (1935), where he did most of his own stunts. Stuck making films for poverty row studios and stereotyped as Tarzan, he changed his name. Bennett would reunite with Joan Crawford seven years later for So che mi ucciderai (1952).
