Shea Whigham in this film portrays shifty political operative Gary Ruzak. "We used Ollie North as a kind of template for Shea's character," said director Brad Anderson, referring to President Ronald Reagan's infamous Iran-Contra affair military liaison. "Ruzak's loyalties are to the president. He's very much a company man who's in Lebanon to fix this situation before it goes bad and he'll make a deal with the devil if necessary."
